Le siguen The Novice, con cinco nominaciones, y The Lost Daughter y Wild Indian, con cuatro cada una. Zola compite en la máxima categoría con The Novice, The Lost Daughter, Para Chiara y C'mon C'mon. Siempre adelante.

La española Madres paralelas, de Pedro Almódovar, compite en la categoría de película internacional.

Como el año pasado, cuatro de los cinco nominados a mejor director son mujeres, con Mike Mills, de C'mon C'mon. Siempre adelante, como el único nominado masculino en la categoría. Beanie Feldstein, Regina Hall y Naomi Watts dieron a conocer las nominaciones de los Spirit en un vídeo. La ceremonia de entrega tendrá lugar el domingo, 6 de marzo en Santa Mónica.
